Ananya Panday: This is the most special year of my life

Ananya Panday has no time for things most girls her age relish doing, not even celebrate her birthday. She isn't, however, complaining. Rather, the Student Of The Year 2 debutant, who turned 21 on October 30, is happy to have spent a working birthday this year. She says the day highlighted the most special year of her life.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro reportedly tipped to arrive in markets by Q2 2020

After having announced the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro smartphones globally, rumours are flying in thick about the OnePlus 8 which is expected to be announced next year. There have been a few renders of the device surfacing online and now we have a new report which states the possible launch timeframe for the devices.

This would make sense since that is usually the time when OnePlus announces its new phones just as it did with the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro this year.

As per the earlier report, the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro is likely to feature a 6.65-inch punch-hole display and curved edges. The pop-up selfie camera is going to be dropped from the phones which could mean that there might finally be an official IP rating on OnePlus devices.

On the back, the report suggests that there will be a triple rear camera setup with a 3D ToF sensor placed next to it. The LED flash is also likely to be placed near the camera setup. On the sides, there is likely to be an "Alert slider", power button on the right side whereas the volume button is expected to be on the left side. A speaker grill and a Type-C port are expected to be placed at the bottom.

This upcoming OnePlus 8 series might also come with 5G support.

Hundreds of koalas are thought to have perished in Australia's raging wildifires

Conservationists fear hundreds of koalas have perished in wildfires that have razed prime habitat on Australia’s east coast.

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital President Sue Ashton said she hoped wildlife carers would be allowed to begin their search of the fire zone for survivors on Thursday. The fire was started by a lightning strike on Friday in a forest in New South Wales state, 300 kilometres north of Sydney, and has since burnt 2,000 hectares (4,900 acres).

Two-thirds of that area was koala habitat, Ashton said.

“If we look at a 50 percent survival rate, that’s around about 350 koalas and that’s absolutely devastating,” Ashton said of the death toll.

“We’re hoping it’s not as bad as that, but because of the intensity of the fire and the way koalas behave during fire, we’re not holding out too much hope,” she added.

Koalas climb high into trees during wildfires and survive if the fire front passes quickly below them.

The koala colony was particularly healthy and genetically diverse, Ashton said. Koalas prefer coastal forests, which are being cleared for suburban expansion. Increasingly isolated koala colonies have become inbred and diseased.

Australia’s wildfire season has made a particularly early and devastating start in the southern hemisphere spring due to above-average temperatures and below-average rainfall that has left much of the east coast in drought.

Twitter to ban political ads next month ahead of 2020 US Elections: CEO Jack Dorsey

While Facebook stands firm on its decision to not fact-check ads run by politicians, Twitter will ban political advertising on its platform next month, the company's chief executive said on Wednesday, as social media platforms face pressure to block attempts to steer elections with false information.

"We've made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally," said Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in a statement. "We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought."

Social media companies, including Twitter rival Facebook Inc face growing pressure to stop selling ads that spread inaccurate information.

Dorsey pointed out that "while internet advertising is incredibly powerful and very effective for commercial advertisers, that power brings significant risks to politics, where it can be used to influence votes to affect the lives of millions."

In the Twitter thread, the platform chief also took a subtle jab at Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg's statement at the recent hearing before US Congress, saying that you can't claim that you are working on stopping misinformation from spreading on your platform when you are ready to allow any ad to be run on your platform if the publishers pays you for it.

Facebook has pledged efforts to deal with misinformation on its platform after Russian propaganda on that platform before the 2016 US presidential election was seen to affect the outcome of that race, which was won by Donald Trump.

Concluding the thread, Dorsey said that the political ads on social media platforms are not about free expression but about "paying to increase the reach of political speech", which can have significant ramifications that "today’s democratic infrastructure may not be prepared to handle."

But Facebook made a decision to not fact-check ads run by politicians, drawing ire from Democratic candidates running in the 2020 presidential election such as former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Earlier this month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the company's policy, saying it did not want to stifle political speech.

Twitter's ban takes effect starting 22 November. Dorsey wrote on Twitter that paying for ads forces "targeted political messages on people" with a power that "brings significant risks to politics, where it can be used to influence votes to affect the lives of millions."

Galaxy S10.

The phone has the model number SM-G770F and it is packing in the Snapdragon 855 chipset along with 8 GB RAM and it is also shown to be running Android 10. The presence of Android 10 could mean that this device may be launched only after Samsung unveils the Galaxy S11.

Looking at the scores we see that the phone has managed 724 points in the single-core department and 2,604 in the multi-core test. To put that in perspective, it is higher than both Exynos and Snapdragon versions of the regular S10.

Unconfirmed rumours have suggested that the Galaxy S10 Lite could, in fact, be the Galaxy A91 smartphone. As of right now there is not much else to go on about the device, but we will be sure to update you as the story develops.
